On a routine day, we get up in the morning, wash up, get dressed, slide down the stairs, have breakfast, kiss our parents and go about our usual business, at the office or at the college. We are unaware of the feats our body and our brain have to accomplish before we can comprehend our environment and perform the above-stated actions. What makes the color blue, blue? What makes some things rough and others smooth? What makes us recognize some faces and not others? How does our brain manage to identify items and people without us thinking about it? These are all things to ponder over.
The human brain is a marvel in itself. Its importance and significance can only be appreciated when it gets diseased or when it partly stops to function correctly. Our ability to understand it is very limited and we have just scratched the surface in understanding how it functions. At present, we know that the brain is divided into parts the Cerebrum, Cerebellum, Pons, and Medulla oblongata. The Cerebrum which has 2 halves is further divided into the frontal lobe, the parietal lobe, the temporal lobe and the occipital lobe respectively. We have discovered that the frontal lobe is responsible for Behavior, abstract thought process, problem-solving ability, emotion, and intellect, sense of smell, skilled movements, motor skills, physical reactions, and sexual urges The brain (2008).
