One of strongest flaws of fast food is the tremendous effect it has on health. This food is eaten by all ages from a small child to a grown adult. However, there are several disadvantages that are coupled with the consumption of fast food. The first of these is the high-calorie count that is a large part of this consumption process. The refined sugar and high fats are incredibly dangerous to the consumer’s health.
These saturated and hydrogenated fats are capable of blocking arteries in the heart leading to severe heart problems. Not only do the fats block arteries but they can also cause a variety of other heart problems. This is coupled with the presence of refined sugar which is capable of causing diabetes. The presence of sodium in the food can be tremendously detrimental to the health of the consumer. This form of salt is very different from ordinary salt which is not good at providing the right kinds of nutrients to the body. Fast food is inept at providing any sort of dietary fiber to the consumer. This is coupled with the lack of vitamins and other minerals, essential to keep the body strong. While several fast food joints now provide calorie counters to estimate the intake in every consumer’s diet, this counter is generally of little use to both diet conscious consumers and unhealthy eaters (Chandon & Wansink).
Health is an essential part of every individual’s lifestyle. The increasing rise in fast food consumption has adversely affected the conditions and fitness of the people who consume it. There is a rise in the number of diseases which are now affecting individuals. No specific group is suffering because of these problems; in fact, the detrimental fast food effect is hampering individuals of all ages. Illnesses like heart diseases, obesity and diabetes and high cholesterol are now becoming an abundant part in the makeup of society.
