Computer and video games are a relatively new phenomenon. Four decades ago, no one knew what it was. The era computers in every household only started to become a reality in the early 1980s. It was usually used for work purposes back then. As the technology improved and as the computers began to become faster and better, the potential for the computers to be used to entertain children grew and grew.

The games that started to emerge initially were simple, unattractive and required know-how of computer operations which were not a common place back in those days. As the computer technologies improved and simplified, the games have improved and became more attractive for the children to play.  As the years went by, the games which appeared at the children’s disposal became more graphic, visually eye-catching, and of different styles. In the late 80s and the early 90s, first person shooter games with violence like Wolfenstein and Doom appeared on the screen. These games showed blood and gore like never before. The graphic quality of the games very realistic and attracted the children’s attention.  Back then, there were age restrictions, no rules and regulations’ concerning what was allowed to be shown to the kids. The children’s community was gradually spending more and more time in front of their computer screens playing video games.
