Many times in life, we encounter some experiences that test our ethical stands. Such experiences may at times land us in situations that pose ethical dilemmas. We may be required to choose between ethics and personal feelings or beliefs. On a personal level, I was able to be in such a situation when I registered, as a volunteer in Episcopal Church, South Dakota, for a food and aid distribution and community empowerment program targeting poor residents of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation community, one of America’s poorest communities.

Residents of Pine Ridge The following discourse highlights a brief history of the organization and my motivation to volunteer in its activities, my personal experience during the entire program, how my ethical foundation and personal values were enriched as well as the impact of religion in the development of an ethical culture in people.
